I have toothache
The best pain relief for toothache is ibuprofen or paracetamol. These are available over the counter.
Please read the package instructions and do not exceed the recommended dose.
It is possible to take ibuprofen and paracetamol together (2 hours apart) unless you have been advised not to take either by your doctor.
If you have any symptoms of COVID-19 (fever and/or cough) then please avoid taking ibuprofen as a precaution.
Anaesthetic gel such as ‘Orajel’ may also help ease the pain and should be available from your local pharmacy.
Please note you will not be prescribed stronger pain relief by your dentist or NHS 111.
